Watts Water Works

Los Angeles, CA

In response to the pressing need for Los Angeles to address its tenuous relationship to its water supply, this project proposes a new water infrastructure that recharges underground aquifers by diverting used municipal water into a series of reservoir lakes throughout South Los Angeles rather than dumping it into the Pacific Ocean. In this area of the city, underground aquifers are particularly close to the surface which allows for highly efficient recharge rates. In an attempt to leverage this infrastructural development for the public good, each site will offer community amenities that make use of the recycled water, such as public pools and baths, aquatic gardens and healthcare facilities.
